If you qualify for a subsidy

Get Covered New Jersey is the most affordable coverage available, full stop. Medicaid is expanded (NJ FamilyCare) in New Jersey.

If you don't

Full-price marketplace plans are the most expensive coverage in New Jersey. For healthy people, private PPOs on MagnaCare and Cigna PPO are routinely 30–50% less. New Jersey has its own individual mandate: residents without qualifying coverage owe a Shared Responsibility Payment on their state return.

What's not affordable

Health-sharing ministries and indemnity plans look cheap until you have a claim. Ask for the out-of-pocket maximum; if there isn't one, it isn't insurance.

New Jersey does not allow short-term medical plans, so the private alternatives here are the shared-network PPO plans rather than short-term coverage.
